In early 2010 I bought my first Digital camera a Nikon J1 at Heathrow Duty free to use on holiday little did I know what a journey I had just embarked upon with that purchase. Previous to this I had dabbled with film cameras but with no access to a dark room I continually received disappointing results at the Boots photo counter on a regular basis and the interest together with a large chunk of my meagre wages disappeared.

So along came digital… A medium that gave me instant results and the seed was born. Wildlife around my village became very wary of “The Man and the Nikon” invariably turning and bolting in the opposite direction to my lens setting me the task of learning some field craft. Slowly I got nearer and images became more detailed but where can i improve on this new found skill. BSEPS was the answer, a local camera club offering a chance to measure my success and maybe get some education. WOW I was impressed at my first competition there was sharp wildlife, landscapes to die for and portraits to be admired I had entered different world but had a single-minded determination to compete at their level.

The next few years saw a change of kit with purchase of a Nikon D810 and compatible lenses, lots of reading and listening to others my images improved and started winning club competitions in wildlife and landscapes. BPE was suggested so I started a journey in 2019 and received BPE1 a year later. I have currently started entering BPE,s again and moving towards BPE2 and currently waiting on CPAGB adjudication in 2021 Member of Beyond Group since September 2020 and currently organise entries for National and International exhibitions for the members.
