Lucy Bell

Painting

My work, while abstract, has always been inspired by landscape now mainly in mid-Suffolk my local area which has many woods, ancient and more recent.

The work goes through various stages which I find very creatively enjoyable. Drawings evolve into abstract pieces through cutting up and rearranging to overlap, unfold and repeat images. I make studies in different media, pastel, collage and acrylic using different colour schemes before using oils for the final work.

Texture is important and I am interested in using analogies with textiles, for example using lines as equivalent to stitching or embroidery. One theme I am exploring now is footpath journeys.

Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk.
