Painting

In my landscape paintings I try to capture a sense of quiet and stillness that draws us to wild places. The paintings evolve over a period in which I try to balance descriptive marks with recognising the value of chance marks. I like the disruptive nature of these chance marks which occur through scraping layers away or through erasing sections through applying white spirit. I also work with plaster and concrete. I set images and objects into plaster blocks. I like the way plaster reveals what is carried within it. I think that process of working opens up a potential for exploring meaning about our own past and that of the past in general.
