Welton owlportrait

I am a Norfolk based painter and illustrator, painting local wildlife, landscapes and the natural world. I have been drawing since a young age and graduated from Norwich University of the Arts with a degree in Illustration in 2019. I am inspired by nature, folklore and enjoy capturing the movement, light and soul of the animals that I paint, creating atmosphere in each piece. I use wild bird feathers to achieve the finer and softer details in my work.

As a visually impaired artist, I use high contrasting warm and cool toned acrylic and oil paints under a magnifier and low vision lamp to build texture and character into my work. I have previously done painting demonstrations as a solo artist during Norfolk Open Studios with my equipment to raise awareness of sight loss in the arts community.

I have exhibited at the Norwich Forum, The underground Gallery Norwich, Anteros Arts Foundation Norwich, The Shoe Factory Norwich, Artspace on the prom Cromer, Becketts Chapel Wymondham, NO8 marketplace Diss, FoxYard Studios Stowmarket, Designers and Makers Diss, The Old Lockup Gallery Peak District, The Factory at the Holy art Gallery London and Boomer Gallery London. I have completed an artist residency at the Bank arts centre in Eye and have taken part in artist takeovers at Designers and Makers studio. I have worked with the National Trust at Blickling hall displaying paintings and with Headway Norfolk- donating two paintings named after my neurosurgeons to raise awareness of brain injury and neurological conditions.

I am currently a resident artist and a part of the artist collective at Harrods of Hingham and am a gallery artist at Gallery 10 in Alby Crafts Centre Cromer, the ArtLoft Thetford, Chequers House Gallery Kings Lynn and Art in East Anglia Bury St Edmunds.

I am open for commissions and bespoke work, to view examples of my paintings my instagram account is: @meganwelton_illustration
