Sculpture

My recent work consists of an assortment of animals, monkeys, hares, and dog heads, often described as flamboyant, magical, and theatrical, each alive with its own personality and narrative.

Each piece is individually hand built in stoneware clay and thus unique. The themes range from social, cultural, and sometimes political issues…I draw on whatever inspires me at the time.

The sculptures often reference my Indian-British heritage and my southern African upbringing where I spent my formative years and. I have lived in London since I was 8 years old and more recently have moved to Norfolk.

In childhood I was prevented from following my love of art. It was only after the loss of a child in my 40’s that I truly experienced creativity and discovered the medium of clay. I found my strength to fully express myself creatively.

In 2002 I started weekly ceramics classes at an adult institute. There has been no looking back. I threw my self into every aspect of mastering the art of ceramics and settled very comfortably in the domain of sculpture and in particular animal sculpture.

In 2015 a public commission by Working Men’s College to make a life size bust of its Principle, councillor Satnam Gill OBE, was featured in the local press, The Camden New Journal - It sits proudly in their beautiful, listed wood panelled Library.
