This painting was inspired by a gate in the water meadows around Bury St Edmunds. I used intense saturated colours and metallic paint to evoke sunlight glinting through vegetation. As well as a celebration of a place I love, the painting invites the viewer to think of symbolic gates: looking backwards to a past, perhaps less perfect than memory shapes, or forward to an imagined future.
