Description: Velvety, deep-red blooms of ‘Royal William’ rose in my garden kept catching my eye last summer and inspired me to paint this beautiful portrait. I love the richness of colour and exquisite petal shapes. I could almost feel the beautiful fragrance.

The meaning of red roses is universally understood to be love and passion. In ancient Greece, the rose was closely associated with the goddess Aphrodite.
