In 2016 I made a very large piece for an exhibition in Salthouse Church in Norfolk. After the show I began to break down the piece into smaller sections and use the existing marks and surface qualities as the starting points to suggest the marshes and cloud formations. I like the way that some of the existing marks do not want to fit in with my plans and resist being marks that are suggestive of landscapes. To my mind, that creates a tension within the image.
