Exploring this beautiful region is the best way to
appreciate all it has to offer. Yes, here at Art in East Anglia we have to
spend time behind the computer screen but we LOVE to get out and about in and discover the many creative spaces this region has to offer.
The old Jet came up in conversation as a “must” visit.
The website is beautiful and intriguing and certainly inspired Chris and I to go along and have a look. Based at Bentwaters, the ex U.S Air Force base in Rendlesham in Suffolk The Old Jet offers a truly wonderful creative space for a variety of activities.
We were met by Em who told us the history of the building and the vision behind The Old Jet Arts Centre. Their aim is to “create an inspiring working environment for professionals working in the creative industries”.
As an artist you can hire studio space as an individual or as a group and they have networking days where you can use their desk space and meet with other people working in the creative sector.
As soon as you enter you are met with a wonderful, friendly and open atmosphere which is enhanced by the wonderful décor (their incredible communal kitchen for the artists who hire studio space was straight of my pinterest account!)
There is a library beautifully decorated and a wonderful space where they have live music and movie nights. Both Chris and I felt inspired while talking with Em and really grasped the concept that The Old Jet offers.
Not only do they offer studio space to hire they also have storage facilities. They have three hangers totally over 25,000 square feet of storage space. With a variety of different shapes and sizes of storage they can store any amount of equipment “from a single amplifier to an arena level stage production”
The possibilities don’t end there! They also have movie nights and a regular market on a Saturday where people sell jumble, home wares, paintings, jewellery, vinyl and more!
If you are looking for an arts workshop or class they also provide a timetable of art classes so there really are a number of ways of getting involved with the Old Jet Arts Centre.
We had a lovely morning there and I will definitely to going along to one of their Jelly Co-Working days to meet other freelances and will be popping along to the one of their markets and plan to go to their movie and Live music events… I’ve got a lot to book in!
Go and take a look at their website and so you can see what a great creative space it is!
